Utility Technician

Hudson Municipal Electric Utility is seeking a full-time person for this position. This individual will assist in the administration and general operation of the electric utility, including construction, maintenance and operation.

Vocational or trade school certification/course work or college degree, and industry-sponsored course work or related work experience required. Candidate must be willing to obtain the required certifications needed to perform the assigned duties. Customer service experience required. Salary DOQ.

Comptroller

Atlantic Municipal Utilities offers this position. Directs, coordinates, and monitors the accounting and finance operations of the Utilities in accordance with Utility and regulatory guidelines and regulations.

Responsible for the development of accounting procedures necessary to ensure proper internal control, the development of cost of service statistics and appropriate rate schedules consistent with Board policy, and the timely preparation of financial reports. Responsible for all federal, state and county tax obligations and filing requirements and cash management and investment of all utility funds.

Comprehensive knowledge of Utility financial practices and procedures; proven management skills, particularly relating to financial activities; proven leadership abilities, ability to prepare sound recommendations based on factual data and good judgment is required.

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required. CPA is preferred with considerable work experience in the administration of accounting and budgetary systems. EOE. Pre-employment drug screen required.

Power System Planning Engineer

Manager, Transmission and Distribution

This position directs and manages all activities related to the electrical transmission and distribution system including Engineering, T&D, Metering and Power Quality, and Technical Services. This person will direct the activities of the Chief Operations Engineer which includes preparation of work orders, the maintenance of system maps in GIS system, evaluation of new equipment and materials, and development and application of construction standards and techniques.  This individual will also maintain a strong relationship with residential, commercial, and industrial customers by providing reliable and outstanding customer service.   Incumbent will also be involved and work closely with electrical contractors and other vendors.  There are four direct reports and a total of 35 salaried and bargaining unit employees in this department. 

This person will participate in labor relations activities including contract negotiations and labor management meetings. This manager will be responsible for monitoring and controlling costs of inventory and for directing the work related to line maintenance and new construction needs while making sure that there are adequate materials on hand.  This individual will be involved in establishing service requirements for residential, commercial, and industrial customers as well as ensuring department compliance with the NERC Reliability Standards.  They will also ensure that all employees have had adequate safety training and attend regularly scheduled safety meetings.

Utility Chief Executive Officer

Harlan Municipal Utilities (HMU) is seeking an individual with strong leadership abilities to replace its retiring Chief Executive Officer. HMU is a progressive utility which provides electricity, natural gas, water and telecommunications services to the city of Harlan, Iowa, with a population of 5,282. 

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, or other pertinent field from an accredited university. Five years experience of demonstrated leadership and management in the utility industry is also required. Residency requirement.

Superintendent/Plant Manager

The Coggon Municipal Light Plant is now accepting resumes for this full-time position. Base salary is open and undecided at this time and will depend on experience and expertise. Benefit package will be offered.  Persons applying must be experienced in underground and overhead line work, new construction of lines. Other duties include, but are not limited to: Line inspection, meter reading, tree trimming, locates, meter change-outs, customer service, working with aerial lift and pole truck. Knowledge of diesel generation for maintenance and operation is needed, and experience with switch gear, substation work, and boilers. 

All persons interested in the position must be located within the City of Coggon’s electric operating area, but negotiable. Person hired will be on-call for emergency situations. Applicant must be a high school graduate or have a GED equivalent. Must have attended line school or have experience in line work. Generation experience a plus, as well as knowledge needed to perform plant maintenance. Pre-employment drug testing and physical is required. Applicants must have a Class B CDL with trailer endorsement. Computer knowledge is required, as well as attendance at board of trustee meetings and other meetings, and knowledge of state and federal reports.  Persons interested in applying may not meet all criteria listed, but must be willing to attend schooling to learn all required knowledge.
